Dropbox stores team file data in United States data centres by default. Australian storage is available for eligible team plans: a team with an Australian billing address can request a one-off migration of its file data from the US region to Dropbox's Australian region.

The move is permanent and covers file data at rest rather than every piece of account metadata. Dropbox has renamed its team plans. What used to be sold as Standard and Advanced is now sold as Business and Business Plus, with Essentials for single users and Enterprise above Business Plus.

Existing subscribers may still see the old Standard and Advanced names on their billing, and both sets of names still appear in Dropbox's own documentation.

The practical difference between the two main team plans is storage and administration. Business starts at 9 TB of shared team storage. Business Plus starts at 15 TB and adds tiered admin roles, longer file recovery and compliance tracking.

It depends on the direction. Moving data out of Dropbox into Microsoft 365 uses Microsoft's Migration Manager, which includes a Dropbox connector and moves files into SharePoint document libraries and OneDrive at no additional licence cost.

Moving data into Dropbox from an on-premises file server, Google Drive or Box is done with third-party migration tooling or the Dropbox API. In both directions the file copy is the straightforward part.

What determines whether the migration succeeds is the permissions mapping, because a folder tree that has accumulated ad hoc sharing for five years will reproduce that mess in the new system if it is copied rather than redesigned.

Files are copied rather than moved, so your existing system stays intact until you decide to switch it off. Shared links and permissions need more attention.

A Dropbox shared link is tied to the account that created it, so links generated from personal Dropbox accounts stop working once those accounts leave the migration, and external collaborators have to be re-invited on the new team folders.

It depends on what you are already paying for and how your team works. If you hold Microsoft 365 Business Premium licences, SharePoint and OneDrive are already included, and running Dropbox alongside them means paying twice for file storage.

Dropbox tends to win where teams work with very large files, where external collaborators need simple link-based access without Microsoft accounts, or where the desktop sync client's behaviour matters more than deep Office integration.
