Microsoft 365 Copilot Readiness for Melbourne Professional Firms

Before you buy Copilot seats, find out what Copilot will be able to see. Intuitive IT runs Copilot readiness assessments for accounting, wealth, law and recruitment firms with 10 to 200 staff: the oversharing reports, a clean-up plan, and a 30-day pilot with the numbers agreed in advance. You don't need to be a managed IT client.

What Copilot sees on day one

Microsoft 365 Copilot inherits exactly the permissions each person already has. If a folder was shared with everyone in the firm years ago and never closed, Copilot can read it, summarise it and answer questions about it the day the licence goes on.

This isn't a theory. In the Australian Government's 2024 Copilot trial, the Digital Transformation Agency's evaluation found that "use of Copilot enabled some participants to access documents that they should not have had permission to access." Copilot doesn't create a permissions problem. It makes an existing one visible to everyone at once.

What the readiness assessment covers

  • Oversharing reports: we run the SharePoint permission reports, find the sites and files shared far too widely, and give you the list with dates, in writing.
  • A clean-up plan: what to close before anyone gets a licence, in priority order.
  • Three numbers: the measures your pilot will be judged on, with today's value written down before day one.
  • The pilot group: ten people in text-heavy roles, not the whole firm.

The assessment is quoted based on your firm's size. If you want us to do the clean-up as well, such as tightening permissions, setting up Microsoft Purview sensitivity labels or writing an AI use policy, that's quoted separately. For the full reasoning, read the Copilot readiness assessment I'd run before you buy a single seat.

How the 30 days work

From the first report to a decision on day 30. Hover or tap each card for the detail. Copilot strategy can also sit inside our vCIO service.

Step 1: Report

Find what's open before Copilot does.

Oversharing report

We find every site and file shared with everyone in the organisation, and when each was last reviewed.

Step 2: Plan

Close the gaps first.

Clean-up plan

A prioritised list of what to close, so confidential files aren't one question away from the wrong person.

Step 3: Measure

Know what success looks like.

Three numbers

Three measures agreed in writing before day one, so day 30 ends with a decision rather than opinions.

Step 4: Pilot

Ten people, not the whole firm.

The pilot group

Ten people in roles where the work is text-heavy and the pain is real, told plainly that the firm is testing the tool, not them.

Step 5: Train

Training that actually happens.

Two training sessions

Two short sessions in week one: one to show what Copilot does, one four days later to hear what didn't work.

Step 6: Run

One habit at a time.

Four-week plan

One scenario a week: email, then meetings, then documents, then whatever the group has started asking for.

The Copilot Readiness Assessment I’d Run Before You Buy a Single Seat

We sell Microsoft licensing. So this is an awkward thing for me to write down, and I'm writing it anyway: if you buy Copilot seats this month and hand them out on Monday, you'll waste the money, and you might create a problem you didn't have. Not because the product's bad. It isn't. It's what happens in the fortnight before anyone types anything. What a Copilot licence actually does on day one Think about a ...
Do you need an AI governance framework?

Do you need an AI governance framework?

Somewhere in your firm there's a document that says who can commit the firm to what. It might be called a delegation of authority schedule, or a signing matrix, or just "the approvals policy". It's been through the board. It says a senior associate can authorise up to a figure, that above another figure it needs two partners, and that certain things need you personally regardless of the amount. It's one of the oldest and ...

Someone Just Pasted a Client File Into ChatGPT

It's 4:40 on a Thursday. A senior associate has a client review at nine tomorrow. She's got eleven pages of file notes she hasn't read, and she's been sitting in other people's meetings since ten. She opens a browser tab, ChatGPT, the same one her nephew uses for his assignments. Select all, copy, paste. Then she types: "Summarise the key issues and flag anything that needs a decision." Four seconds later there's a clean one-page ...
